About hula

Aloha! In my blog, I would like to share my experiences and the general about hula.
First, you may already know, but just in case, let me introduce hula simply. Hula has 2 types: Kahiko and Auana. Kahiko is a tradditional dance and dances to the sound of the drum. Auana is modern dance and dance to the sound of ukulele. I started learning Kahiko when I was 10. It is a powerful and very attractive dance so I love Kahiko. I would be happy if you are interested in hula! Mahalo.

    Oh awesome! I love Hula! I took the traditional hula class at KCC in the Chapel. It was one of my favorite classes at KCC, I learned alot about Hawaiian culture through dance. I just recommended my friend to take one of the hula classes at KCC. Please post your Hula pictures to this blog. We all would find these images very interesting. Kahiko is very cool with the Ipu. mahalos.

Kalalau

  Aloha. 3 years ago, I went to Kauai Island to practice hula, and I went to Koke'e State Park, Kalalau Lookout.  When I went there, it was cloudy and I couldn't see the view. We were disappointed, but when we danced the Koke'e song, the clouds gradually disappeared. I was surprised and impressed. I love hula because it has such power!

Uniki

Aloha. Students can become Kumu Hula if they receive Uniki that means to graduate. I have experienced Uniki once. Frist, I got in the sea and purified wile chanting. Next, I went to the mountain and I danced hula there. People who can dance and chant perfectly can uniki. It was so hard but I want to uniki in the future.

Koke'e

Aloha. When I wen to Kauai Island to practice hula, I stayed at a house in Koke'e State Park. There was only one house in the depth of the mountain and no reception. I just practiced hula without a smartphone. It was very comfortable and fresh. That was a good experience for me.
