Pele

Aloha. Everybody may already know but I introduce a very famous god, Pele - she is the god of fire and volcanoes. Hawaiians think she governs Kilauea and if she gets angry, the volcano erupts. She There are several dances and chants related to Pele and I learned it from Kumu. She is hot-tempered so it is very powerful and represents her. I don't have any photos related to it, but I'll shere another photo next time. If you don't know her myth, please check it or I can tell you. Mahalo.

    Yes she is hot tempered and two years ago she covered puna! I was on a helicopter ride over fissure 8 which created the hot lava river which was so fascinating to see. I also was able to see halemaumau crater 3 years ago when the lava lake was there. Many native Hawaiians went there to chant to Pele. Thanks for sharing.

  Aloha. 3 years ago, I went to Kauai Island to practice hula, and I went to Koke'e State Park, Kalalau Lookout.  When I went there, it was cloudy and I couldn't see the view. We were disappointed, but when we danced the Koke'e song, the clouds gradually disappeared. I was surprised and impressed. I love hula because it has such power!

Uniki

Aloha. Students can become Kumu Hula if they receive Uniki that means to graduate. I have experienced Uniki once. Frist, I got in the sea and purified wile chanting. Next, I went to the mountain and I danced hula there. People who can dance and chant perfectly can uniki. It was so hard but I want to uniki in the future.

Koke'e

Aloha. When I wen to Kauai Island to practice hula, I stayed at a house in Koke'e State Park. There was only one house in the depth of the mountain and no reception. I just practiced hula without a smartphone. It was very comfortable and fresh. That was a good experience for me.
